Oz Public exists to provide a clear, factual record of news as it develops. We collect articles and press releases from across trusted sources and track how the reporting evolves over time. Our goal is to give readers the context they need: what was said, who said it, when it changed, and how different outlets may report the same story differently.

We don’t take sides. We don’t add adjectives or opinions. We simply show the facts, the updates, and the corrections, so people can make up their own minds.

Oz Public is open to everyone to read, browse, and search. Readers can also register for an account, which allows them to:

All complaints are logged, reviewed, and transparently published, so our community can see how issues are raised and resolved.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) helps us do the heavy lifting. Specifically, AI is used to:

Search for and retrieve updates to existing stories.

Compare different versions of articles to detect changes, corrections, or contradictions.

Highlight where reporting differs across multiple sources.

Importantly, AI does not write articles for Oz Public, nor does it insert opinions. All AI use is in service of tracking, cross-checking, and making the news record more reliable over time.

Oz Public ingests RSS feeds and other publicly available releases from outlets such as ABC, SBS, The Guardian, TechRadar, and others. These feeds are used only for headlines, snippets, and metadata to help track and compare reporting over time.

We do not republish full articles. Every story includes clear attribution and a direct link to the original publisher’s site. Our role is to archive, cross-check, and summarize — not to replace or compete with the original journalism.

While Oz Public aims to be as open and transparent as possible, there are times when we may need to suppress or restrict access to a story. These circumstances include:

Investigations — temporarily removing a story while we review complaints or verify disputed information.

Complaint Resolution — suppressing a story while a complaint is being addressed to ensure fairness to all parties involved.

Legal Obligations — complying with law enforcement requests, court orders, or requirements under Australian legislation.

Whenever suppression occurs, we will aim to note the fact that a story has been withheld and, where legally permissible, explain the reason. Our guiding principle is transparency: even when content cannot be displayed, readers should understand why.

Oz Public is run by a very small team (at present, only one person). While we make every effort to respond quickly to issues, it is not always possible to resolve matters immediately. We will act as fast as possible in line with our policies, but delays may occur.

Other important points to note:

Accuracy — Oz Public does not create original reporting. We ingest, summarise, and track existing reporting from external publishers. Responsibility for the accuracy of the underlying content rests with the original publishers.

Automation — Much of our processing (including AI-assisted searches and updates) is automated. While this reduces bias, it also means occasional errors may appear in summaries or categorisation.

Defamation — Oz Public does not intend to defame or damage reputations. Our system republishes snippets and metadata provided by original publishers, with neutral processing layered on top. Any issues should be raised through our complaints process and we will seek to remedy them promptly.

Legal Compliance — We operate under Australian law and will comply with takedown notices, court orders, or other legal obligations as required.

Transparency — Where possible, we document changes, corrections, and suppression periods so readers understand how and why content has been handled.
